Guidelines for Abstract Submission

Presenting formats

  • Abstracts must be written exclusively in English. As English is the designated language for the congress, the presenting author is also required to speak English when presenting.
  • Abstracts are considered for either oral or poster presentation.
  • If your abstract can only be presented as a poster, please check the appropriate box during the submission process.
  • For concurrent or plenary sessions, only one author may present the abstract.
  • The presenting author need not be the first author, but must be a listed author.
  • Authors’ names should be supplied in the surname-last format and should be in initial capital/lower case, not all capitals.

Abstract title

  • Title character limit: 20 words.
  • Titles should be brief, clearly indicating the nature of the presentation.
  • Include only commonly used acronyms in the abstract title.
  • When entering the title online, use title case (do not use all caps OR all lowercase). Do not put a period at the end of the title. For example:
This Is a Properly Formatted Abstract Title

This is an improperly formatted abstract title
T his is an improperly formatted abstract title.

  • Body character limit must be limited to 300 words and must be concise and clear, highlighting the most relevant aspects, findings and conclusions.
  • Use only standard abbreviations. Special or unusual abbreviations are not recommended. If otherwise necessary, the latter should be placed in parenthesis after the first appearance of the full word, except for unit symbols. Numeral rather than words may be used to indicate numbers.
  • References are not required for abstract submission.
  • Organise content in sections as follows, using the exact section name and colon:
    • Background/Purpose: Background or statement of purpose
    • Objectives:
    • Methods: Methods, materials, and analytical procedure used*
    • Results: Summary of the results in sufficient detail to support conclusion (never “results will be discussed”)
    • Conclusion: Conclusions reached

Please note to take special care when entering your title and abstract body as these will be published exactly as submitted.

Tables and graphs/images

  • The characters in the table do NOT count towards the abstract word limit.
  • Tables and graphs/images will be accepted as PNG, JPG, or GIF files.
  • The maximum allowable size of each image is 1MB.
  • Up to two tables can be included in the results section with the following criteria:
    • Maximum number of columns: 12
    • Maximum number of rows: 20
    • If a second table is added the number of columns and rows decreases by the number of columns/rows used in the first table
  • One graph/image can be included with the following criteria
    • Image width min. 50 pixels max. 750 pixels
    • Image height min. 50 pixels max. 750 pixels
